Parental discretion is advised for children. Dr. Lisa Strohman is a clinical psychologist, attorney, and author. Distractions have increased, especially as cell phone cameras have improved. (3:00) In addition, social media is a major challenge. At the same time, most people don't understand how AI actually works. (17:30) This raises an important question: What are we giving up for convenience? Critical thinking skills are being diminished. Writing by hand activates the brain's neural pathways; in contrast, AI encourages a more passive state of the brain. Dr. Strohman researched the Columbine tragedy in 1999. (34:00) Concerning trends show signs of increased narcissism, reduced empathy, and lower levels of oxytocin (a key bonding chemical). (36:00) As a result, many kids raised on tech and social media place less value on other humans, and certain apps make this worse. News spreads instantly, and memories of current events fade quickly as the next story replaces them. (47:00) Negative interactions are increasing; let's refocus on teaching how to be good humans.
