Summary
"As we face this shock... there's something that rises up and says it can't be, it shouldn't have happened." West Memphis, Arkansas was, in a lot of ways, the kind of American small town that people often romanticize. And like all romanticized places, it had its dark spots - such as poverty, underfunded social services, domestic troubles, and a police department under investigation by the Arkansas State Police for suspected mishandling of drug task force money. It was not a perfect place. But for the children who lived there, it was the only place. In the spring of 1993, three eight-year-old boys lived in that world. They rode their bikes through the neighborhood and explored the woods behind their houses. On the evening of May 5th, 1993, those three boys went out to play and never came home...
