Summary
It’s Season 3, Episode 3 of HBO’s House of the Dragon ! 🐲🩸 The reality of sitting on the Iron Throne just hit Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen like a ton of structural dragonglass, and the Snark Squad is breaking down an hour packed with massive psychological burdens, a bankrupt treasury, and an absolute masterclass in military deception. Rhaenyra’s initial days of rule in King's Landing are proving that taking the capital is the easy part—ruling it when the populace is actively starving and there's only a week's worth of gold left in the vaults is a total logistical nightmare. To make matters worse, her baseline internal defenses are fracturing. Lord Corlys Velaryon is aggressively demanding that the crown fully legitimize his bastard sons, Addam and Alyn, but a deeply stressed Rhaenyra flatly rejects the system update, fearing it will completely compromise the perceived legitimacy of her own heirs. While Rhaenyra tries to govern with her late father's tempered, peaceful ideals, the Rogue Prince Daemon Targaryen is out here running a completely different, highly aggressive script. Backed by three massive dragons, Daemon completely blindsides the Green host, forcing an apparently panicked Lord Ormund Hightower into an immediate surrender. Daemon even demands Ormund’s young ward, Prince Daeron Targaryen, as a high-stakes hostage. Rhaenyra spends the entire episode wringing her hands over the ethics of executing her teenage half-brother, eventually deciding to compromise by sending him to the Wall for life—only to bring Queen Alicent in for a reunion and realize the absolute horror truth: the kid they locked in the cells is a complete imposter.
