Summary
In this episode of Unexplained America, your host Lisa discusses the famous and beautiful Stanley Hotel located in Estes Park, Colorado. The Stanley Hotel is built by famous manufacturer Freelan O. Stanley in 1907--the hotel opens it's doors in 1909 to great success. This episode will outline the early history of Estes Park and then the background of Freelan Stanley and how he came to be the owner/designer of The Stanley Hotel. We will further discuss the happenings, the hauntings that lead up to 1974, when Stephen King visits the Stanley and writes his book "The Shining" (released in 1977). I will also add in my own personal experience staying at the Stanley Hotel and what a wonderful town Estes Park is along with outlining all the many ghost stories that correspond with the hotel legend.
