We are beginning this project with a debate about the 1980 The Young Master . Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about the crazy backstory concerning this movie, how Jackie Chan came to reinvent Kung Fu cinema and how he ended up kidnapped by the Triads while trying to set up this production at the Golden Harvest studio. We also talk about the movie itself functioning as a transition point between the world of old elevated Wu Xia and modern, self-aware and stunt-laden filmmaking Jackie Chan was pursuing.
