Summary
There was a time when the government could easily downplay massive UFO sighting events by issuing dishonest statements about what people were actually seeing. But because of advanced technology in the form of smartphones with 4K video resolution, commercial aviation cameras, meteorological radar, and crowd-sourced night-sky tracking networks, lying to the public when mass sighting events occur - such as the 1997 Phoenix Lights incident, the 2008 Stephenville, Texas UFO sightings, and 1950 Farmington, New Mexico UFO Armada event - becomes impossible in this day and age.
