Summary
In the summer of 1997, the gas station at the junction of Tanner Creek and Old State Road 34 stayed open past midnight because someone had to. I worked the register there for three months, long enough to learn which regulars came for the cheap cigarettes and which came for something else. But I never learned why the blue light appeared in the back room every night at exactly 2:07 AM — or why the boy with the hollow eyes kept asking for directions to a road that no longer existed.
