Summary

Laurel Waterman was a happily married wife and mother of two small children when the unexpected death of her husband in 2018 launched her into a quest for proof of consciousness beyond the brain. She was devastated by the loss, and her grief began to overwhelm her. Yet she didn’t settle for the pity or advice from therapists suggesting she “just believe” he was still out there. She needed actual, experiential, proof. In this episode, she brings us along on her intimately personal quest to, not just blindly accept the continued existence of life after death, but to know it, fully, for herself. Her story is deeply touching, and it will also have you asking important questions about our society’s current materialist paradigm, and how detrimental it can be for those who grieve. Maybe it’s not childish to hope for an afterlife. Perhaps our eternity is actually a great fundamental truth of the human existence, and our deep need to rediscover it is fueled by our innate gravitation towards an alignment with what is real. Laurel’s Bio: Dr. Laurel Waterman has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Pedagogy, Wellbeing Emphasis, at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. She holds an MA in Adult Education and Community Development from OISE and has been teaching narrative non-fiction writing in the Professional Writing and Communication program in the Department of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (CCIT) at the University of Toronto, Mississauga since 2009. She is a board member of The Scientific and Medical Network (SMN), a UK-based educational organization focused on the intersection of science and spirituality, and belongs to the Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Sciences (AAPS Global).
