In this video, I explain why I think that belief has become a political trap — one that benefits the people steadily dismantling democratic institutions while encouraging the public to disengage in cynicism. Using Mary Howitt’s “The Spider and the Fly” as a metaphor, I compare the very real differences between the modern Republican Party and the Democratic Party on public education, criminal justice, accountability, January 6th, and authoritarianism.
