Summary
Understand who these men were. They weren’t villains twirling their mustaches. They were the serious ones, the ones who had given their lives to God’s Word — memorized it, fenced it, defended it. And somewhere in all that guarding, the Law stopped being food and became a club. They could stand in a field full of grain, watch hungry men eat, and see nothing but a violation. Sabbath rules kept to the letter; the mercy the Sabbath was made to deliver, scattered to the wind. Shell without kernel. Religion you can’t eat.
