Summary
Washington’s longstanding policies on Taiwan remain unchanged following the summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping, officials said. Trump told reporters on Friday he declined to clarify his position on Taiwan when Xi asked whether the United States would defend the island. CIA Director John Ratcliffe and other U.S. officials meet with Cuban officials in Havana. This comes as the communist island says it has completely run out of diesel and heavy fuel oil, and its power grid has entered a “critical” state. Federal officials ramp up law enforcement efforts across Washington ahead of major summer events and America's 250th anniversary celebrations. One million people are expected at the National Mall this coming July 4th.
