Summary
The Edmonton Oilers just pulled off a bold move by hiring Mike Babcock — the controversial ex-Blue Jackets coach who walked away before ever taking the helm — as their new head coach, betting big on his ability to end a 24-year Stanley Cup drought. Despite past baggage and fan skepticism, Babcock’s star power is undeniable: Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are fully behind him, and even hockey royalty Sidney Crosby has praised his line-matching genius and clarity in player roles. With Babcock’s legendary resume — including a 2008 Cup with Detroit and an all-time top-10 playoff record — the Oilers are banking on his tactical mind to turn things around. Facing an aging core and thin draft resources, this season could be make-or-break for both Babcock and the franchise.
