Summary
New York City is cracking down on ticket scams targeting tourists near Battery Park, where scammers have long preyed on visitors with fake tickets and bogus bus tours—sometimes even pushing people onto out-of-state buses. The only legitimate ways to reach the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island? Statue Cruises or the free Staten Island Ferry. With fines currently as low as $50, the new legislation aims to hike penalties to $1,000+ and revoke licenses after just three violations, sending a clear message: no more shady sales tactics. This push seeks to restore trust, protect tourists from financial loss, and ensure everyone can enjoy NYC’s landmarks without deception.
