Summary
The New York Jets are counting on a clutch kicker to break their playoff drought, and in a last-minute decision just days before kickoff, head coach Aaron Glenn chose Jason Sanders over Blake Grupe — despite Grupe being on the active roster. Sanders, a veteran with eight seasons under his belt (though sidelined last year with a hip injury), was signed off the free agent market, while Grupe was brought in after being cut by the Colts. Both missed kicks during preseason, but the Jets prioritized confidence and consistency — qualities they desperately need as field goals decide 15% of NFL games. Even Justin Tucker, facing suspension, was considered during tryouts, highlighting how seriously the team is taking this pivotal role.
