Summary
An NYPD officer who was just 18 months into his career on 9/11 revisits the ground zero precinct and shares his harrowing memoir for the first time — from responding to a minor car crash minutes before the first plane hit, to running toward the towers as debris rained down, saving lives including children, being trapped in the collapsing Marriott hotel, and surviving by sheer luck while thinking of his grieving wife. His handwritten notes, now displayed in a makeshift museum alongside artifacts like the only photo of female officer Moira Smith, stand as a haunting testament to chaos, courage, and loss — with fewer than 900 of the thousands who responded still serving today.
