Summary
Are children, as they enter the world, better seen as the teachers parents need to unlearn conditioning that denies transcendence? In this interview, I interview author and space psychologist Iya Whiteley, about her book "Born Knowing: How Children Awaken the Sacred in Everyday Parenting." We explore how parenting can serve as a spiritual practice, with children naturally arriving connected to deeper layers of being and embodying qualities like unconditional love and interconnected awareness. Iya shares her personal journey as a parent over 14 years and describes how she developed a 12-week course for parents based on spiritual psychology, emphasizing the importance of listening to intuition rather than following prescribed parenting methods. We discuss how children naturally question authority and invite parents to reconsider their assumptions, while also addressing challenges in balancing modern educational systems with nurturing children's innate qualities of wonder and imagination. We also reflect on the ripple effects of loving relationships and the importance of being present in each moment, for our children, our family, our friends, and ourselves.
