Summary
Karen Stump turned a childhood job into a legacy, building Holly Street Daycare in East Nashville into a resilient community hub that’s survived tornadoes, a pandemic, and personal heartbreak—including the loss of her daughter, husband, and grandson. With unwavering dedication, she implemented tough policies like a $1-per-minute late fee while nurturing deep bonds among kids, parents, and staff. Former students return as parents or teachers, and families find friendships, careers, and support here. After each disaster—whether a 1998 tornado, a 2012 tragedy, or the 2020 storm and pandemic—Stump reopened quickly, kept staff employed, and maintained safety, proving that love, grit, and community can rebuild anything.
