Summary
After two years of relentless search amid flood-ravaged debris in Tennessee’s Cherokee National Forest, Nancy Tucker, 76, the final missing victim from Hurricane Helene, has been found — her remains discovered just four days after a long-delayed debris removal operation began. Her husband Jimmy, whose body was found shortly after the storm, will now finally be laid to rest beside her, after they married in the U.S. Army and shared 44 years together. The hurricane claimed over 250 lives and caused nearly $80 billion in damage across multiple states, with Appalachia hit especially hard as rivers turned into deadly torrents. In North Carolina, one victim’s story inspired Alena’s Law, streamlining disaster-related death declarations. Despite bureaucratic roadblocks and hazardous terrain filled with cars and propane tanks, officials honored their promise to recover every missing person — bringing closure to a family and healing to a community still reeling from nature’s fury.
