Summary
This episode chronicles the capture and conviction of Juan David Ortiz, a Border Patrol supervisor who became a serial killer targeting women in Laredo, Texas. The narrative centers on Erica Pena, a brave survivor who escaped Ortiz’s vehicle and provided the critical information law enforcement needed to identify him. Through body cam footage and an eventual confession, investigators linked Ortiz to the murders of four individuals he claimed he wanted to "clean" from the streets. Despite his military background and law enforcement status, a jury found him guilty of capital murder. The account concludes with emotional victim impact statements, where families emphasized the humanity of their lost loved ones and favored a sentence of life without parole.
