Summary
In 2021, Colorado authorities arrested Dane Kallungi for the strangulation and burial of his wife, Jepsy Amaga Kallungi, who had moved from the Philippines to marry him. Although her remains were never found, the investigation reached a breakthrough when Kallungi confessed the crime during a recorded conversation with his first wife. A jury ultimately convicted him of first-degree murder in 2023, resulting in a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. This case highlights the tragic intersection of domestic violence and the vulnerabilities faced by immigrant women in international marriages. Beyond the legal verdict, the narrative emphasizes the persistent efforts of law enforcement and the Filipino-American community to seek justice and closure for Jepsy's family. To this day, investigators continue to search the remote areas of Teller County in hopes of returning her remains to her mother.
