Summary
Montreal Canadiens make a savvy move by signing defenseman Arber Xhekaj to a one-year, $1.5M deal for 2026-27 — a smart bet on grit, playoff experience, and future potential. After scoring his first career playoff goal and proving his toughness in 13 postseason games, Xhekaj brings exactly what the Habs need: physicality, hustle, and a willingness to mix it up. With just 33 points in 230 NHL games, he’s not a scorer — but his impact on the ice is undeniable. This short-term contract lets Montreal evaluate him while giving Xhekaj a shot at bigger rewards down the road. In a league that still values heart over stats, this signing signals the Canadiens are building for tomorrow — with a player who’s already earned his place in the present.
