Summary
The Timberwolves pulled off a savvy trade, sending underperforming rookie Rob Dillingham to Chicago for Ayo Dosunmu — a dynamic scorer and defender who instantly energized the team during their playoff run. Minnesota locked him down with a five-year, $112 million contract, signaling a bold bet on his long-term growth. While the deal is pricey and could strain future roster flexibility if Dosunmu doesn’t deliver, his early impact suggests he’s worth the investment. With no other core player signed beyond 2029, Dosunmu’s development is now the linchpin of Minnesota’s young core — and if he keeps climbing, this gamble could pay off big.
