Summary
A 66-year-old man, Raymond Jones, was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder in the fatal shooting of Desirae Argueta-Joj, receiving the minimum 108-month sentence despite prosecutors pushing for a much harsher penalty. Jones claims he met the victim for sex-for-money, blocked her exit when $30 went missing, and says she pulled a knife before he fired his gun during a struggle — though investigators found no injuries on him. The county attorney argues the crime was intentional and the judge’s leniency downplays Jones’s culpability for firing at close range into her heart over a petty dispute, calling it a tragic case where blame was wrongly placed on the victim.
