Summary
The Trump administration has admitted in court it canceled $7 billion in clean energy grants—targeting projects in 16 states that voted for Kamala Harris—revealing the cancellations were politically motivated, not based on merit or economic viability. Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s previous claims were contradicted as Democrats and environmental groups accuse the government of weaponizing power against voters. Lawmakers like Marcy Kaptur and Patty Murray condemn the move as un-American, blaming working families for the fallout. Over 300 awards for 223 projects, including battery plants and grid upgrades, were terminated last October under the guise of national energy needs. A court case and internal watchdog probe now confirm the grants were selectively canceled based on state political leanings, with the Thakur v. Trump case exposing a pattern of partisan targeting.
