Summary
The Miami Hurricanes are banking on a veteran-led linebacker corps to anchor their defense in 2026, despite fielding one of the youngest teams overall. With players like eighth-year senior Mohamed Toure and sixth-year senior Chase Smith finally healthy and ready to lead, the unit is poised for a breakout. Toure, a rising star after battling injuries, delivered 82 tackles and 2 sacks in the College Football Playoff and aims for his best season yet. Smith, a steady presence through coaching changes, had his most complete year yet with 31 tackles, 2 fumbles recovered, and 2 pass deflections. Depth is solid with rising junior Bobby Pruitt and healthy newcomers like Kamal Bonner, Kellen Wiley Jr., and Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. ready to contribute, while freshmen and walk-ons add energy and competition — a mix of experience and hunger that could make this linebacker unit the heart of Miami’s defense.
