Summary
“If you’re gonna pick an album that’s supposed to be the album of the decade…” The Grammy’s have proven over and over to metal fans over the years that their decisions are (more often than not) completely arbitrary and have absolutely zero basis in honor, truth, or reality whatsoever. And if you need to be reminded of this irrefutable fact, just remember who won the Grammy for “Best Metal Performance” in 1989. “This was a little difficult and it was the first time…and there was no science behind this…” Every award show, whether it’s The Grammy’s for the music industry or The Emmy’s for the acting industry, seems to be nothing more than some random selection of whatever artist is deemed popular or worthy enough by an elite few individuals to receive such an esteemed and prestigious award, based on nothing more than pure speculation and industry favoritism. Well, we’ve decided that it’s OUR turn to do the same for metal. Because “it’s OUR award to give…” With that, we proudly present to you The Inaugural Bunkerpoon Awards for Excellence in Metal, to be known henceforth as THE POONYs, an awards show where WE decide (based on our own personal experience and metal knowledge) which artist is worthy of our own, self-important seal of approval, honor, and recognition. Ultimately, we hope that THE POONY AWARDS will become an event of prestigious accolades and glory that everyone in the metal community will attend with greater and greater anticipation and excitement. And given that this is our very first ever POONY AWARDS, we have to start with the decade that has defined everything in metal up to this point: The 1970’s.
