Summary
Shudder's new original horror film SACCHARINE left us feeling overfed, bloated and ultimately malnurished. After medical student Hannah begins making her own diet pills from a cadaver, she rapidly loses weight while developing an uncontrollable hunger. Unfortunately, she also attracts the attention of the very large, very angry ghost whose remains she has been consuming. On this New Movie Monday, Griffey, Heath, Sam and Sophia dig into Natalie Erika James' ambitious body-horror movie. We discuss its grotesque eating sequences, striking direction, body-image themes, Midori Francis' lead performance and an absolutely baffling final scene. Is SACCHARINE a bold personal horror film about addiction, appetite and self-loathing? Is it a beautifully made movie with far too many ideas? And what the hell was that ending supposed to mean? Watch SACCHARINE now on Shudder, then join us for the full spoiler discussion.
