Summary
When best friends Amy Barratt and Dayna Slade couldn’t find products that reflected their culture for their own children, they decided to create them. In this episode of Make It Happen, I sit down with the co-founders of Bo & Ko to talk about how a personal gap in the market became a business rooted in Māori and Pacific culture, identity and connection. We get into building a brand while navigating new motherhood, turning an idea into products people genuinely connect with and the realities of growing a business alongside one of your closest friends. Amy and Dayna also share how entrepreneurship has strengthened their own connection to whakapapa and why creating something culturally meaningful has become such an important part of what they’re building. It’s a great example of how some of the best business ideas start with something simple: noticing what’s missing and deciding to create it yourself. Ready to start building?
