Summary
Madison police chased down Corey Ruiz after spotting him fleeing during a liquor store theft investigation — his felony warrant and violent history triggered the officer’s weapon draw. A high-speed pursuit ended with Ruiz tackled and restrained, though he allegedly kneeled an officer during the struggle. Officers found weapons and drug paraphernalia in his possession, including a large knife he claimed was for protection. Ruiz later pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and drug paraphernalia charges, while officers maintained no life-threatening risk occurred during the takedown.
