Summary
A Lubbock photographer who moved to New York to preach before falling into photography found himself on a rooftop on 9/11, capturing harrowing images of the Twin Towers’ collapse — but couldn’t bear to look at them for a decade. Frozen in place by horror, he chose to document rather than intervene, witnessing people jump from burning buildings and even catching a fallen office prospectus as a haunting symbol. Now, twenty-five years later, he calls that trauma his “dark passenger” — a burden that ultimately reshaped him, deepening his empathy and confirming his calling behind the lens.
