Summary
Hibs won, but the performance raised bigger questions than the scoreline answered. Craig breaks down why the new shape looked more rigid than fluid, why Partick Thistle found so much space, and what Sunday’s win really says about David Gray’s plans going forward. Matty, Colin, and Craig dig into the tactical trade-offs behind the 4-2-3-1, including why the build-up felt disconnected, why the press sometimes looked half-committed, and why the team kept falling back into longer, more direct play far earlier than expected. Craig also explains how Partick’s fluid movement stretched Hibs, why that created the best counter-attacking moments, and why the same approach could be a problem against stronger opposition. You'll discover: Why Mayor looked more effective playing higher up the pitch How Megwa and Iredale change the team on both sides of the ball Why the centre-halves may not be suited to the current build-out patterns What’s stopping Hibs from controlling games for long spells How Elding is thriving in a role that suits his intelligence and movement Whether McGrath and Wright can realistically fit in the same side Craig also gets into recruitment, asking whether Hibs have built too much for a back three and whether the squad has enough of the right profiles to make a more aggressive, possession-based system work. With Thursday’s game against Gent looming, the discussion turns to whether Gray will lean into a counter-attacking plan again or use this performance as a warning sign. Essential listening if you want more than the result and care about what Hibs are actually becoming under David Gray. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
