Summary
West Virginia found Emerson Joy in Canada. Now, following the season-ending injury to Darius Wiley, the Mountaineers may need the 6-foot-6, 253-pound defensive end to play a major role much sooner than expected. Joy transferred to WVU from the University of Alberta after recording 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles during a breakout 2025 season. Despite arriving after spring practice, the Canadian prospect earned snaps in the season opener and is now being positioned for an expanded opportunity. We break down Joy’s unusual journey from Canadian university football to Morgantown, the traits that make him such an intriguing developmental prospect and what WVU’s updated Week 2 depth chart tells us about the plan for replacing Wiley’s snaps. Could Emerson Joy become the next breakout player in Zac Alley’s defense? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
