Summary
The Philadelphia Phillies couldn't figure out George Kirby as they fall to the Seattle Mariners, 4-1. The Phillies opened the scoring in the 2nd inning, as Justin Crawford brought Bryson Stott on an RBI single. However, in the bottom of the inning, the Mariners responded with a solo homer by Cal Raleigh to right that evened the score at one. The Mariners recorded their second run off Nola in the 6th inning on an RBI single to center by Josh Naylor. Aaron Nola put in another solid start as his awesome August continues. The righty allowed just two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven over his six innings of work. For the second straight night, Don Mattingly made a questionable decision regarding his starter. After he allowed a struggling Zack Wheeler go out for the 5th inning of Monday night’s loss, where Wheeler gave up back-to-back homers, he pulled Aaron Nola before the 7th despite being at 92 pitches and the 7-8-9 who hitters coming up. Orion Kerkering took over in the 7th and found himself in a bases loaded, one out situation after he hit a Mariner then allowed a base hit and a walk. Brooks Raley then came in and gave up a two-run two-out single to Dominic Canzone that gave the Mariners a 4-1 lead. George Kirby allowed a total of 11 earned runs over his two previous starts but was able to hold the Phillies to just one run over 7.2ip while striking out nine.
