Summary
New Orleans Pelicans ponder a bold move: can Bennedict Mathurin transform their bench and supercharge their second unit? Jake Madison breaks down why Mathurin should slot in as the sixth man, not a starter, even if the Pelicans pull off a major trade or sign-and-trade to acquire him. With key names like Dejounte Murray, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy, and Zion Williamson anchoring the starting five, plugging Mathurin into the bench could jolt the team’s scoring and prove crucial during Williamson’s rest minutes. Analysis centers on lineup combinations, Mathurin’s one-dimensional yet explosive attack style, and how rookies Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen might complement him. Madison also spotlights the Pelicans’ signing of Christian Koloko to a training camp contract, evaluating his fit as a defensive center. Will these moves elevate New Orleans’ playoff hopes, or does the bench still lack enough firepower and balance in the ultra-competitive NBA landscape?
