Summary
The Baltimore Orioles are back to .500 — and the Birds are suddenly right in the American League Wild Card race. BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT GAME-SEALING HOME-RUN ROBBERY BY COLTON COWSER??? JAKE MCCARTHY AT THE PLATE AS THE GAME WINNING RUN VS. ANDREW KITTREDGE, BLASTS A TWO-SEAMER TO THE CENTER FIELD WALL, AND BRINGS BACK A HOME RUN. Luke Slabaugh reacts to the Orioles’ 2-1 win over the Colorado Rockies in Denver, Baltimore’s fourth consecutive victory and its first time at .500 since April 30. At 69-69, the O’s sit just a half-game behind Cleveland for the final AL Wild Card spot. Dylan Beavers and Samuel Basallo sparked the breakthrough in the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles against Rockies right-hander Tanner Gordon. Basallo’s booming RBI double off the base of the center-field wall tied the game and gave Baltimore the momentum it needed. Then came the defining seventh inning: Mark Manfredi and Nick Frasso walked the bases loaded before Colton Cowser put the ball in play with two strikes. Initially ruled an inning-ending double play, Craig Albernaz challenged — and the replay showed Cowser narrowly beat the throw to first. The overturned call brought home the go-ahead run and gave the Orioles a huge 2-1 lead. Cade Povich, recalled from Triple-A Norfolk, delivered exactly what Baltimore needed: five innings of one-run baseball in a tough road environment. A 98-minute rain delay ended his night, but Povich put the Orioles in position to win. Can the Orioles keep this momentum rolling in Colorado?
