Summary
Prime Minister Andy Burnham just smashed records — and hearts — by becoming the first sitting PM to finish the Great North Run, clocking in under two hours while raising funds for homelessness charity Changing Lives. Ditching his Everton gear for a Number 10 bib, he joked about running with someone “more unpopular” to take the heat — and even gave a shout-out to Peter Reid. With 65,000 fans cheering him on and the Red Arrows putting on a dazzling flyover, Burnham called it the best sporting event in Britain. Elite winners Zouhair Talbi and Brigid Kosgei also claimed top honors. The race’s massive energy, crowd support, and fundraising power make it a global bucket-list event — next year’s ballot is expected to be the biggest yet, with entries opening January 2027 and results dropping September 21, 2027.
