Summary
Authorities launched a major crackdown across Liverpool, Huyton, Birkenhead, and Wallasey, raiding eight shops and seizing over 43,000 illegal cigarettes and a cannabis farm with nearly 900 plants. This operation targets organized crime using legitimate storefronts as fronts — vape shops, barbers, corner stores — to launder money and evade taxes. With seven arrests made on the Wirral alone, law enforcement, HMRC, and trading standards are uniting to clean up high streets, protect honest businesses, and send a clear message: illegal exploitation won’t be tolerated. Intelligence gathered will fuel a massive expansion, aiming for 30,000 interventions by 2027, to dismantle criminal networks and restore safety and fairness to communities.
