Summary
A woman named Sarah Slater, battling a 15-year drug addiction and homelessness, was caught dealing heroin and crack cocaine in a park—drugs hidden in her bra, cash, and a burner phone in hand. Facing charges for possession with intent to supply and carrying a blade, she revealed she was forced into dealing to pay off a £400 debt to her supplier. Despite being in care from age five to sixteen and actively seeking recovery through the Change, Grow, Live program—with her support worker praising her commitment—she even requested prison, believing it’s where she can best rebuild. Yet, the judge sentenced her to 33 months behind bars, acknowledging her addiction and desperation but also her past convictions. Her story is a sobering look at how addiction can trap people in cycles of crime and punishment, no matter how hard they try to change.
