Summary
Leicester Animal Aid hit pause on new cat intakes for three weeks as their cattery overflowed with 54 cats and kittens—driven by a surge in un-neutered felines. Female cats can breed as young as four months, fueling rapid population growth, while unneutered males roam, fight, and mark territory, worsening the crisis. Rising neutering costs and misconceptions about male cats’ role make the problem harder to tackle. Now easing back in, they’re prioritizing neutered adults, aiming for 30–40 cats total to manage resources—and urging owners that spaying/neutering is vital to curb strays and save lives.
