Summary

Paul Moon has been photographing the Yorkshire Wolds for years, and that depth of time in one place comes through clearly in his work. It's a landscape most people drive past without stopping, chalk valleys, dry grassland, ancient woodland and wildflower meadows, and Paul has made it his life's work to show people what they're missing. His preference for upright compositions and mid-range lenses over wide angles suits the Wolds perfectly, a landscape defined by twisting forms, shadows and intimate detail rather than grand panoramas. In this episode Paul talks about his long term project focused on Millington Pastures and plans for a self-published book, the influences of Joe Cornish and David Ward on his thinking, and how photography has deepened his understanding of local geology, flora and environmental change including ash dieback. He also touches on navigating access issues with gamekeepers and building relationships with local landowners. I hope you enjoy the show!
