It has since become the most frequently cited evidence that Israel is not a racist state — that it airlifted Black African Jews to freedom and welcomed them as a lost tribe returning home. The popular narrative of Operation Solomon has been used as proof that Israel is not racist and that Israel is a diverse democracy. Bassem Youssef — the Egyptian comedian and political commentator who has become one of the most widely watched voices on the Israel-Palestine conflict — examines what happened after the rescue. Ethiopian Jewish women who immigrated to Israel were regularly injected with contraceptives without their knowledge or consent. Israel eventually acknowledged this. The administered shots stop menstruation and can cause serious fertility problems. Blood donations from Ethiopian Jews were secretly dumped. Institutional and police discrimination followed.
