In Operation Lion's Roar, the IDF says it is ready for a potential Iranian ballistic missile attack in the coming hours and asks the home front to stay on high alert. IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Eyal Zamir said the threat would be a retaliation for the IDF’s airstrikes in Beirut earlier Sunday, which themselves were in response to Hezbollah drone launches against Israeli towns in the north. Zamir said he was receiving running updates on the heightened security situation. While there are no immediate home front restrictions, there could be in the coming hours if Iran conducts an attack. If Iran strikes again, as it did last week with about 25 missiles that caused no deaths, Israel would respond with airstrikes, as it did in two waves of fighter jets last week. There is also an expectation that the US president would step in after a relatively short time, and that a larger war would not be reignited. In Iranian Retaliation, voices on the other side of the conflict press for a different stance. “Mr. President—when your helicopter was shot down, no one was killed, yet you still found it necessary to respond. So how is it that when explosive drones are launched into our civilian communities in the north, you dismiss it as meaningless?” Hypocrisy at its best.
