In the Conflict with Iran and its Regional Proxies, Israeli forces pressed operations in southern Lebanon after a lethal incident that killed Staff Sergeant Michael Tyukin. Tyukin, 21, from Ashkelon, served in the Givati Reconnaissance Battalion and made aliyah from Ukraine six years ago with his mother; he was an only child. Four additional IDF soldiers were lightly wounded in the incident. The Ashkelon mayor said the entire city is in pain and mourning his death and that the municipality will assist his mother through this difficult time. The operation began several days ago with the goal of eliminating the threat Hezbollah poses to northern Israel and is expanding to additional areas. Ahead of the ground entry, the Israel Air Force carried out extensive support strikes against Hezbollah infrastructure. Ground troops crossed the Litani River, entering and securing the Beaufort Ridge and Wadi al-Saluki areas of southern Lebanon, with the operation near Nabatieh and a plan to widen the campaign. Defense Minister Israel Katz praised the achievement of reaching the Beaufort Ridge and recalled the 44-year tribute to the Beaufort battle and the Golani Brigade’s role in raising flags at the peak. Ground-support fire including artillery and tank fire accompanied the push. Residents south of the Litani were urged to evacuate north of the river, as any Hezbollah military facility or operational area will be attacked.
