Summary
"It was quite horrifying" For veteran South Wales detective Howard Tucker, more than 25 years of policing could not prepare him for what he witnessed as a war crimes investigator in Bosnia following the 1991–1995 conflict. Assigned in 1998 to investigate allegations of war crimes, Tucker entered a landscape marked by ethnic cleansing, mass displacement, and atrocities committed against thousands of Bosnian Muslims. His work involved gathering evidence, documenting crime scenes, interviewing survivors, and helping build cases for international investigations seeking justice for victims. "It was quite horrifying," Tucker recalls a restrained description of experiences that exposed him to the devastating human cost of genocide, systematic violence and the enduring trauma left behind.
