Having been arrested for giving honorable burial to Christians who had been slain for the Faith, they were brought before the pagan authorities and commanded to sacrifice to the gods, but courageously refused. They were condemned to death and exposed to wild beasts in the amphitheater, yet the beasts would not attack them; they were then killed by the sword. Their bodies were secretly buried by a Christian named Quirinus and were eventually placed in the catacombs of Pontian, where their ancient cult was preserved. The Church venerates Abdon and Sennen as models of Christian charity and fortitude, who not only remained faithful to Christ in the face of persecution but also risked their lives to honor the bodies of the martyrs.
