Summary
The Indiana Fever overcame a rough start and a physical, tension-filled fourth quarter to beat the Phoenix Mercury 86-77 in their first matchup of the season. After being outscored 19-6 in the first quarter, going 2 for 18 from the field, Indiana responded with a strong second quarter, then took control with a 30-11 third behind Kelsey Mitchell , Caitlin Clark and a big lift from Monique Billings . Clark finished with a game-high 24 points and nine assists, Billings recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Mitchell helped lead the Fever’s surge after the slow start. The night also featured six technical fouls, a bleeding lip for Mitchell, boos for DeWanna Bonner , and plenty of tension between two teams that will do it all over again Wednesday night in Indianapolis. Plus, Myisha Hines-Allen received a two-tech ejection for the first time in her career. ----- Follow Scott on Twitter and Instagram , and read his work on fieldhousefiles.com .
