He retells the spy disaster at Kadesh Barnea, the people’s refusal to enter, and God’s sentence of wandering. And he includes the devastating detail that he himself was barred from the land: ‘The Lord was angry with me because of you.’ The greatest leader in Israel’s history will die without crossing the Jordan.
