Summary

In Part 2, Last Strap gets into the PCT itself — and the thing that made it harder than it had to be. His biggest fear going into the trail was something bad happening to someone he loved. His partner broke up with him five days in. He hiked the remaining 2,600-plus miles broken-hearted, not sleeping, not eating, rage-hiking 20-mile days before he had trail legs, losing 20 pounds by Idyllwild. He calls it hiking on legendary mode. He is, by his own admission, a chronic oversharer — and the tramily who listened to him process all of it across six months is a big part of why he finished. This half of the conversation also covers: the Prius as a philosophy of freedom versus comfort, nomad gatherings and Skooliepalooza, the hot take on thru-hiking and trauma that directly contradicts a Dark Miles episode, the best hitch story in PCT history (a logging semi, a Don't Tread On Me hat, and a Chihuahua named Gunner), three hiking hacks for the price of one, and the best story Will Roquemore tells — the one about his dad, a Walmart order, potato soup from scratch, a handle of whiskey, and six days at Harts Pass. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, start there — it dropped 10 minutes ago.
