Summary
Patrick and Brian watch Angel S5E14 "Smile Time" (2004) with writer/director/supervising producer Ben Edlund. Ben Edlund is an American comic book artist and TV screenwriter, originally from Pembroke, Massachusetts. He is the creator of the independent comic book series 'The Tick', a satirical take on the superhero genre. The character first appeared as the mascot of the Boston-area comic store chain New England Comics, while Edlund was still at high school. The chain launched the black-and-white comic book series in 1988, and it was accompanied by a couple of spin-offs in the years that followed. Edlund wrote and drew most of these comics while also studying film at the Massachusetts College of Art. FOX broadcast an animated series of 'The Tick' from 1994, written and co-produced by Edlund. A live-action series followed in 2001, as well as a merchandise and toy line. By then, Edlund was mainly active as a screenwriter for film and television. He has worked with Lisa and Eric Hammer on the indie film productions 'Crawley' and 'The Venture Bros.', and was a writer on TV series like 'Firefly', 'Angel', 'Supernatural', 'Revolution' and 'Gotham'.
