Am 19. September 1946 ruft Winston Churchill in Zürich zur "Partnerschaft zwischen Frankreich und Deutschland" auf - als erster Schritt zur "Recreation of the European family". Aber nur sechs Jahre früher, im Juni 1940, liegt auf Churchills Tisch in London eine Idee, die noch radikaler ist: nicht Partnerschaft, sondern ein gemeinsamer Staat - eine britisch-französische Union.
